Breath Control and Life Control
As a fitness coach, I believe that breath control is the key to controlling our experience of life. Our nervous system is responsible for everything we experience in life, including our thoughts, memories, sensations, and dreams. We often think we have no control over our nervous system, but I am here to tell you that you do.

Our bodies are built to experience peace, joy, creativity, and love. However, we often struggle to access these positive emotions and spend too much time "trying" to find them. This constant effort can be exhausting and lead to chronic illness from the demands placed on our bodies. But there is hope.
Our evolutionary biology is designed to support purposeful action followed by rest and growth. Unfortunately, we often ignore our body's internal signals telling us to rest and instead grind through life, valuing constant effort over restoration. This can lead to high levels of cortisol, which can negatively impact insulin and inflammation control pathways.
We have failed to listen to our internal signals. The ones that say “enough. rest.” We grind through. We are good at grinding.
The good news is that there is much within our control.
Through my own personal journey of suffering and feeling helpless, I have learned that our bodies have built-in mechanisms to control our experience of life. Breath control is one of the most powerful tools we have, as it is the remote control of our nervous system.
Heart-rate variability (HRV) is the index of our nervous system, and by changing our breathing, we can change our HRV, which in turn, can change our resilience and experience of the moment. By utilizing the power of breath control, we can take control of our experience of life, improve our health, and live our lives to the fullest.
