We live in a vibrational universe. At the atomic level, all of life is vibrating. Atoms are in constant motion, and what looks like a solid wall is a conglomeration of vibrating, moving particles with space between them. The rate at which a vibration pulsates is called its frequency, and each of us is an ever-changing symphony of vibrational frequencies influenced by our thoughts, health, and environment.
Brain waves are frequencies measured by electroencephalogram (EEG). The average person spends most of their time in the beta brain wave state of active thought and learning. Especially in Western society, we have difficulty achieving and sustaining the deep relaxation and meditative frequencies represented by alpha and theta brain wave states. I often heard resistance, even anxiety, from my Reiki clients when discussing using meditation to help them relax. Anxiety with meditation led me to investigate the use of Vibrational Sound Therapy to override the brain and body's long-held patterns of stress and tension.
If you want to find the secrets of the universe, think in terms of energy, frequency and vibration.
— Nikola Tesla
Vibrational Sound Therapy combines powerful vibration and tones to induce immediate relaxation. Various vibration-inducing tools, such as tuning forks, chimes, and gongs can be used. However, the primary tools used are therapeutic singing bowls explicitly designed for Vibrational Sound Therapy. Therapeutic singing bowls of various frequencies are used on and near the body to introduce vibrations directly into the body. The steady rhythm of the bowls allows the mind to relax, and the right non-linear brain aligns with the left analytical brain. The body and the mind come into coherence, which is an alpha brain wave state on an EEG.
Clients often report experiences more aligned with a theta brain wave state, associated with light sleep and dreamlike states. Clients often say, "I was sleeping…but not sleeping." Theta waves are the dominant frequency in healing, remembering emotional experiences, and memory retrieval. They are a gateway to reorganizing old energetic patterns held as non-resonant frequencies in our bodies.
It gratifies me when clients use this new-found awareness of how it feels to authentically relax to support their curiosity and exploration of a personal meditation practice. Regardless of whether they become meditators, their sustained well-being supports a unique sense of peace in a world that often seems at odds with a balanced, relaxed state of mind.
